Dig For Your Life!

On the 15th and 16th of October, year five went to Belgenny Farm. Click here to learn more about Belgenny Farm. The students experienced what it would have been like to work on a farm before the gold rush. They checked the sheep and moved them across a bridge. They also experienced what they gold rush would have been like as they panned for gold by the river and dug for gold in the soil.

Year five worked together in their groups to pay for their license, tools and materials they would need to pitch a tent and find gold. They also made damper. Take a look at the photos below!

St Mary’s Cathedral and Mary MacKillop Place

On Wednesday 28th August, year five attended St Mary’s Cathedral and Mary MacKillop Place in order to compliment the learning about the Early Church in Australia.

  • There are many altars within the Cathedral.
  • Priests used to say Mass with their backs to the congregation (the people attending Mass).
  • There are beautiful stained glass windows that each depict a story.
  • There is a large organ inside.
  • It is made of sandstone which requires a lot of maintenance.
  • The crypt can be found underneath the Cathedral. The bishops are buried in the crypt.

The Minnamurra Rainforest

On Tuesday 19th February, Five White and Five Green went to the Minnamurra Rainforest as they are learning about rainforests this term. Minnamurra Rainforest is part of Budderoo National Park, located on the New South Wales South Coast. Year five left school at approximately 7:30am and arrived at approximately 9:15am. It was then time for recess and a presentation by a guide about interesting information about Minnamurra Rainforest and other rainforests around the world.

Five White and Five Green then split up as the guides took them on a tour of the rainforest. They pointed out interesting trees and plants and shared more of their valuable knowledge about the rainforest and the animals that live there. The guides then left year five to continue the walk to the amazing waterfall. Miss Azzopardi is really proud of Five White’s enthusiasm and motivation to get to the top! It was a very challenging and highly rewarding walk!
